Why I like quick checks instead of 50-page audits
When a new client comes to me with “We need SEO”, I don’t start with a huge 40-hour audit.
I start with a simple, focused check that usually takes under an hour. The goal is not to find
everything, but to see where they roughly stand and what would move the needle first.
Step 1 – Look at it like a normal human
I open the homepage, breathe, and ask:
- Do I understand in 5–10 seconds what this business actually does?
- Is it clear who it is for and what the next step is?
- Can I find contact or booking info without hunting for it?
If this part already feels confusing, no technical trick will save it.
Step 2 – Basic technical sanity check
Very quick questions:
- Is the site using HTTPS everywhere?
- Is there just one main version of the domain (no weird duplicates)?
- Does it work fine on mobile or is everything tiny and painful?
Step 3 – What does Google see?
If I have Google Search Console access, I check:
- How many pages are indexed vs. how many exist
- Whether key pages get any impressions or clicks
- If there are strange errors or obvious warnings
If there is no Search Console, I simply do a site:domain.com search and see what shows up.
Step 4 – Content & structure snapshot
I look for clear service pages, location pages (if relevant) and whether headings and internal links make sense.
I am not chasing perfect keywords here – I just want to know if the site is telling a clear story.
Step 5 – Turn it into 3–5 priorities
At the end, I write down the top 3–5 things I would fix first. Sometimes it is technical, sometimes it is
messaging, sometimes it is “please install Search Console”.
If you want me to run this kind of quick check on your site, you can
book a free 20–30 minute call with me here.
